Roadmap to College

Stage 6 of 7

Transition

Handle the logistics, not just the excitement.

Timeframe
Spring after enrolling through summer before move-in
Primary goal
Turn "we've chosen a school" into "we're actually ready" — before move-in day, not during it.
Reading time
16 minutes
Effort
~4–6 hours in spring, ~6–10 hours over the summer

Quick Start

If you only have 10 minutes, focus on these three priorities:

  1. 1Complete health forms and decide on insurance as soon as the portal opens.
  2. 2Register for orientation and select housing before those deadlines pass.
  3. 3Save every deadline in one place — this stage has more of them than move-in day itself.

Stage Snapshot

Once the deposit is in, it's tempting to relax until move-in day. In reality, this stage comes with a long list of deadlines — health forms, housing selection, orientation registration — most of which come due well before a single box gets packed.

None of this is about big decisions anymore. The big decision was Stage 5. This stage is about steady logistics: completing what's required, roughly in the order it's actually due.

The work may feel less exciting than getting accepted, but completing these logistics well makes the transition to college dramatically smoother.

Coming into this stage without much lead time before move-in?

Start with whichever spring priorities are still open, even if summer has already begun. Most of these can still be completed in a compressed window — it just takes a bit more urgency than it would have in May.
